“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” II Corinthians 5:7
Life is hard for the poor folk of rural Mississippi, and African Americans are among the poorest of those poor. To help the children of the rural poor break the chains of poverty and racism, Mendenhall Ministries founded Genesis One Christian School. The school has always been close to my heart, and I was happy that my son Ryan had a chance to attend it. So I was glad that our foundation was able to support a new ministry headed up by Mrs. Kincaid, a former teacher at Genesis One.
When I told Ryan that I was going to visit Mrs. Kincaid, he was eager to go with me. We drove about forty miles from Jackson, Mississippi, to the little town of Morton, and then about two miles farther out into the country. When we came to a two-story house, Ryan said, “daddy, that’s the one we’re looking for.” We got out and knocked on the door.

On May 26th Alpha and Omega Academy celebrated the end of the school year singin’ and a dancin’! The students put on a wonderful energetic show singing songs with rhythms ranging from the 50′s to the 90′s. All the kids started off with a group sing, the three to five year olds then took the show with more singing and dancing while the one and two year olds entertained with moves of their own. The older students really wowed the audience with their dance moves! They were dressed to jammin’ with the 50′s, singing rhythms to match, and showing their own style of dance.
